What a Girl Wants . . And Why YOU Should Want It Too!

Recently a colleague shared an article from Meredith/NBC Universal entitled,“What Do Women Want?” This survey of 3,000 women focused on questions concerning health/lifestyle desires and behaviors. Some of the findings included the following revelations:110104_bikini_1_2

  • Women are more concerned about diet/weight (56%) and eating right (36%) than they are about cancer (23%), cardiovascular/heart health (20%), and diabetes (18%).

Which makes me wonder, is this statistic a result of vanity or simply the realization that diet and weight play a big role in our risk of cancer, cardiovascular health, and diabetes. So in a round about way, are we actually concerned about ALL of these issues?

  • 59% of all women get an annual physical exam.

This number is actually higher than I would have thought (especially given the first statistic). A common complaint I hear from my organizing clients is how busy and overwhelmed they always are. The fact that over half still manage to work in annual physicals says to me that they really ARE concerned with preventative health issues (contrary to what the first statistic may suggest).966608_drinking___

  • *  Most women don’t want to work too hard to achieve a healthy lifestyle, opting for simple solutions like drinking more water (80%) or eating more fruits and vegetables (70%) over the more disciplined approaches like exercising regularly (43%) and counting calories (44%).

Is this because women are unconcerned, or just too busy and overwhelmed to devote more time and energy to their health? Based on MY experience and client interactions, I definitely vote for the later! Women care and they are very aware, but they just don't have enough hours in the day to devote to ONE MORE activity (like a regular exercise routine) or chore (which is how I, for one, view counting calories).

  • When asked which service professionals they would most like to hire, 24% responded that they wanted to hire a Professional Organizer to de-clutter their living space or office.

Again, this suggests that women recognize the need to simplify their overwhelmed life.  But do they realize the inherent health benefits of enlisting the help of a Professional Organizer?
