Clutter for a Cause
This week I've been on a clutter-reducing craze, both with my own home as well as several of my clients'. While working with one client, "Sue," we came across four old cell phones stuffed in a desk drawer. Sue knew she had no use for them, but she also knew Goodwill wouldn't take them. And she didn't like the idea of adding them to a landfill.
Coincidentally, this week I was introduced to a great resource for donating your old cell phones: www.cellphonebank.org.
Linda Zimmerman, National Program Manager for 911 Cell Phone Bank, contacted me to let me know about this phone clutter-reducing alternative. According to Linda, "At least 70% of the population uses cell phones, but less than 5% recycle them. Most are 'clutter' and tucked away in drawers and closets!" (See Sue, you're not the only one!)
By going to the 911 Cell Phone Bank website and clicking on the "DONATE" button, you can download and print a prepaid shipping label to send the phones to them at no charge. If you want to take the phone somewhere to help a specific cause, you can also find a drop-off location by entering your city into their website search.
Linda goes on to say, "Not only do we provide a recycling benefit, but the 911 Cell Phone Bank raises funds for law enforcement and affiliated agencies (abuse shelters, children’s and women’s advocates, senior programs, etc.) and 'banks' donated cell phones for distribution through law enforcement for abuse victims and seniors in need. We are a partner of the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), the National Association of Triads, Inc. (NATI) and the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA)."
So go check your drawers and closets for old cell phones that could be put to a better use, and send them off to CellPhoneBank.org today (or bookmark this post to refer back to the next time you upgrade your cell phone and need to find a home for your old one.)

Simply yours,

This is a great cause to support!
